Before the Runaways or the Go Gos, before #TimesUp and #MeToo, three biracial teenagers, who connected through their love of the Beatles and Beach Boys in California, met up with other young musicians who eventually made their unlikely mark in rock ‘n roll as the rock band Fanny. Despite facing never-ending sexism and rampant racism in the U.S.A. during the turbulent 1960s, Fanny fought against all odds to make history and pave the way for future female rockers to come.

Part road trip, part political, social, and cultural mirror, the character-driven story of Fanny: The Right to Rock also features celebrity interviews from Joe Elliott, Bonnie Raitt, Todd Rundgren, Kathy Valentine, Charles Neville, Cherie Currie, John Sebastian, Earl Slick, Gail Ann Dorsey and many others.

#3 in Hot Docs Top 20, Winner of the Hot Docs Rogers Audience Award 2021
